David Markwell

David Markwell is an experienced and strategic business and technology leader. He is currently the executive vice-president, chief technology, and analytics officer at Loblaw Companies, and is a member of the Loblaw management board.

David currently serves on the Board of Directors of Equitable Life Insurance Company of Canada; on the partnership advisory council for Wittington Ventures, a leading Canadian innovation fund; on the Board of Directors of Scale.ai, the federal supercluster focused on AI; and is a board director for Maple Health, and a board advisor for Henon.ai.

David is an adjunct professor at the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University and the Schulich School of Business at York University, where he teaches technology strategy, innovation, and applications of AI at the graduate level.

David holds a Bachelor of Applied Science and Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Toronto, an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, a Doctorate of Business Administration from Athabasca University and is a member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario (P.Eng), the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario (CPA), the Project Management Institute (PMP) and the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD.D).
