Ernest Leung
Ernest Leung is currently completing his master’s in business administration at the University of Saskatchewan. Born to a lower middle class family in Hong Kong, he is the first in his family to attend university, having completed a bachelor’s degree in English at the University of Toronto. He also went on to do a master’s degree in communication and culture through the York and Toronto Metropolitan Universities’ joint graduate program. While attending graduate school, he received two highly competitive awards: the SSHRC Canada Graduate Scholarship and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship. These awards directly supported his master’s thesis, which explored the role that stand up comedy played in combating anti-Asian racism during the COVID-19 pandemic. Leung has a passion for conducting and supporting research in the social sciences, humanities and fine arts. His current research interests stem from his diverse educational background and include humour studies, Asian studies, and governance and management, especially in the context of Canadian higher education.
Currently, he works as a research planning and facilitation officer within the College of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan. He supports faculty in the social sciences, humanities, and fine arts with a primary focus on SSHRC and non-tri-agency funding opportunities in the arts. Previously, he worked in a variety of research-related roles at Toronto Metropolitan University, York University and the University of Toronto.
