2024 SSHRC Leaders Meeting

Session summary

On November 26, 2024, the 2024 SSHRC Leaders Fall Meeting brought together 63 Leaders and delegates for an in-person meeting at the Canadian War Museum. Dedicated to providing an engagement channel between Canadian postsecondary institutions and SSHRC, the Leaders network is composed of 83 representatives from institutions eligible to administer SSHRC funds. The overall objective of the yearly meeting is to update SSHRC Leaders on SSHRC policy and programs, discuss emerging topics, and facilitate connections among SSHRC Leaders.

The meeting included updates from SSHRC vice-presidents, a session with SSHRC President Ted Hewitt on the capstone funding organization proposed in Budget 2024 and other developments, a presentation of SSHRC’s Action Plan for Black Researchers, and roundtable discussions to engage SSHRC Leaders on specific topics. The meeting concluded with a session by Kelly Cobey, who presented findings from a recent report commissioned by SSHRC.

The next SSHRC Leaders meeting will be held virtually, on May 22, 2025. The date for the 2025 SSHRC Leaders Fall Meeting, to be held in person in Ottawa, is forthcoming.
