Positioning Canadian research on the world stage

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) participates in organizations, events and initiatives that bring together the world’s major research funders, to help raise the profile of Canadian research and researchers around the world; advance international research policy alignment; share good practices; and better facilitate international collaboration.

  • Research on Research Institute—SSHRC is a core partner in the Research on Research Institute, an international consortium of researchers, funders, publishers, data providers and others that examines how research is funded, practiced, communicated, and assessed.
  • Research Data Alliance—SSHRC serves on the Funders Forum of the Research Data Alliance, an international community of research funding organizations with an interest in research data and related data policies.
  • The Trans-Atlantic Platform for Social Sciences and Humanities—Since the platform’s inception in 2013, SSHRC has been a key participant in the Trans-Atlantic Platform, a collaboration between humanities and social science research funders from South America, North America, Europe, and Africa.

SSHRC also maintains bilateral relationships with funding organizations around the world, to facilitate international collaboration among researchers. These are formalized through statements or memorandums of understanding. Current such relationships include:
