The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) has partnered with the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Arts and Humanities Research Council (UKRI-AHRC) and the Economic and Social Research Council (UKRI-ESRC), both part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), to launch an international call for proposals for Knowledge Synthesis Grants (KSGs) on the topic of Envisioning Governance Systems that Work.

The KSGs may fund up to C$1.4 million divided between two streams:

Envisioning Governance Systems that Work is one of 16 future global challenges identified through SSHRC’s Imagining Canada’s Future initiative that may have a major impact on Canada in the coming decades. These global challenges have the potential to shape society in significant ways.

In todays's world, a growing number of crises, such as climate change, pandemics and the housing crisis, continue to expose the shortcomings of governance models built for a previous era. Current and future governance challenges create opportunities to rethink our perception and understanding of governance structures. This can pave the way for new models that integrate diverse perspectives, while also providing greater agency to marginalized individuals and communities excluded from, or facing barriers in, existing governance models.

The deadline for submission is December 12, 2024, at 8:00 p.m. (eastern).
