The New Frontiers in Research Fund 2026 Transformation competition is now open. Grants of 2 to 4 million dollars per year for six years will support Canadian research teams conducting large-scale, world-leading interdisciplinary research that addresses a major challenge and offers the potential for real and lasting change.

SSHRC has launched a pilot program aimed at funding long-term, high-impact research in areas of key importance to Canada’s future. The inaugural competition’s target area is research that boosts Canada’s productivity.

The 2026 Canada Excellence Research Chairs Program competition is now posted. Eligible institutions will be invited to attend an online information session in the coming weeks. The registration deadline for institutions to nominate Canadian or international researchers for these highly prestigious, eight-year research chair positions at eligible Canadian degree-granting institutions is January 2026.

Ted Hewitt also wrote in Re$earch Money, urging more use of science diplomacy to counterbalance current pain points in Canada-United States trade relations.

The Indigenous Leadership Circle in Research is seeking new members with a deep understanding of Indigenous research. Applicants must be interested in contributing to improving the research landscape for Indigenous researchers and students in Canada. While all expressions of interest are welcome, this particular call is intended to recruit francophone and Atlantic nations (including urban, rural, northern and on-/off-reserve Indigenous Peoples) candidates.
