These awards ensure the continued growth of Canada’s research capacity, and its global leadership in social sciences and humanities research.
More on these funding opportunities
- The NFRF Exploration stream supports projects that bring disciplines together to reach beyond traditional disciplinary or common interdisciplinary approaches by research teams. Researchers are encouraged to undertake research that would defy current paradigms; bring disciplines together in unexpected ways and from bold, innovative perspectives; and have the potential to be disruptive or deliver game-changing impacts. Today’s investment supports 101 projects with more than $25.1 million in funding.
- Insight Grants support research excellence in the social sciences and humanities. Funding is available to emerging and established scholars for research initiatives of two to five years. Stable support for long-term research initiatives is central to advancing knowledge. Today’s investment supports 693 projects with more than $127.6 million in funding.
- Insight Development Grants support research in its initial stages. The grants enable development of new research questions, as well as experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. Funding is provided for short-term research development projects of up to two years proposed by individuals or teams. Today’s investment supports 879 projects with more than $55.6 million in funding.
- Stage 2 Partnership Grants support new and existing formal partnerships to advance research, research training and/or knowledge mobilization in the social sciences and humanities. More than $42 million in Partnership Grants is being awarded to 17 projects over seven years as part of today’s investment.
- Partnership Development Grants support the development of partnerships or the design and testing of new partnership approaches to nurture existing and emerging opportunities for research collaboration, best practices and/or models that can be adapted by others or scaled up to a regional, national or international level. Ninety projects will receive a total of nearly $18 million in Partnership Development Grants over three years.
