Impact Awards

The annual Impact Awards recognize the highest achievements in SSHRC-funded research, knowledge mobilization and scholarship, as well as the highest achievements resulting from a SSHRC fellowship awarded.

Gold Medal ($100,000)

SSHRC’s highest honour, the prestigious Gold Medal is given to individuals whose sustained leadership, dedication and originality of thought have inspired students and colleagues alike.

Talent Award ($50,000)

The Talent Award recognizes outstanding research achievement and career potential from a SSHRC doctoral or postdoctoral fellowship or scholarship holder.

Insight Award ($50,000)

SSHRC’s Insight Award recognizes outstanding achievement by an individual or team whose project has made a significant contribution to knowledge and understanding about people, societies and the world.

Connection Award ($50,000)

The Connection Award recognizes an outstanding SSHRC funded initiative to facilitate the flow and exchange of research knowledge within and/or beyond the social sciences and humanities research community.

Partnership Award ($50,000)

The Partnership Award recognizes a SSHRC-funded formal partnership for its outstanding achievement in advancing research, research training or knowledge mobilization, or developing a new partnership approach to research and/or related activities.

SSHRC Gold Medal for Achievement in Research ($100,000)

The SSHRC Gold Medal for Achievement in Research is the Council’s highest research honour. It is awarded to an individual whose leadership, dedication, and originality of thought have significantly advanced understanding in his or her field of research, enriched Canadian society, and contributed to the country's cultural and intellectual life.

SSHRC Aurora Prize ($25,000)

The SSHRC Aurora Prize recognizes an outstanding new scholar who is building a reputation for exciting and original research in the social sciences or humanities.

SSHRC Postdoctoral Prize ($10,000)

The SSHRC Postdoctoral Prize is awarded each year to the most outstanding SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship recipient.

SSHRC William E. Taylor Fellowship ($5,000)

The William E. Taylor Fellowship is awarded each year to the most outstanding SSHRC doctoral award recipient.

Molson Prize ($50,000)

Each year, the Canada Council for the Arts, in conjunction with SSHRC, awards two $50,000 prizes to distinguished Canadians, one in the arts and the other in the social sciences and humanities. Funded by a $1 million endowment from the Molson Family Foundation, the Molson Prizes honour Canadians who have made important contributions to Canada’s cultural and intellectual heritage.
