Race, Gender and Diversity Initiative

Project summaries

The Race, Gender and Diversity Initiative supported community-based and community-led research partnerships with postsecondary institutions grounded in the lived experience of underrepresented or disadvantaged groups and analyzing the causes and persistence of systemic racism and discrimination. The ultimate goal of this initiative was to support partnership research and related activities to meet the needs of organizations working toward removing barriers and disparities for women; First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples; Black, Asian and other racialized peoples; people living with disabilities; 2SLGBTQIA+ people; religious minorities; and others marginalized on the basis of their ethnicity and other identity factors.

The following project summaries were provided by the project directors who received funding through this initiative. All summaries reflect the status of the project three years after the award start date. Some projects were funded solely by SSHRC, while others received joint funding from SSHRC and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
